Birthdays are Supposed to be Happy!

When we found out that Doodlebug’s birthday was at the end of this month we really thought that we might get to celebrate her 2nd birthday with her. Unfortunately, our agency doesn’t plan to travel until August, so this won’t be possible. No little girl needs to be alone on her birthday! I’m sure no one celebrated her first birthday …no cake, candles, balloons, gifts or special pictures to mark the occasion. Sadly, another birthday is about to pass without a family to celebrate with her. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. There is a book called Every Year On Your Birthday about a little adopted Chinese-American girl. It touches on this subject. It was written and illustrated by the same people who created I Love You Like Crazy Cakes-a part of almost every adopted Chinese-American girl’s library.
Good News: Today I was able to order Doodlebug a birthday cake and a small gift (teddy bear) that will be delivered directly to her orphanage. I found the care package on www.BlessedKids.com The cake will say “Happy Birthday” in Chinese on the top. Doodlebug will be able to share the cake with all of her friends in the orphanage. She will be allowed to take the teddy bear with her when she leaves the orphanage. The package will also include 2 disposable cameras with a letter explaining our request for pictures and a photo album of her new family.
On Doodlebug’s Gotcha Day, we hope to receive the cameras back full of pictures. We will try to have the film developed in China, so that we can give the orphanage copies of the pictures. We were able to send a family photo album and a disposable camera to Desheng Darling’s orphanage. The staff made some excellent pictures of her environment. These pictures are priceless.

I can’t wait to get Doodlebug’s pictures. I hope she has a wonderful birthday!!!! I just wish we could be with her.

What a wonderful surprise to find that you can participate in Doodlebug's birthday even though you can't be there with her. I keep hoping that you will bwe back home in time to celebrate our 50th anniversary with us. What a great gift to have our new niece with us for that special occassion! Love you all, Aunt Muh p.s. Why not have a celebration there in your home with DD to commemerate Doodlebug's birthday and make DD feel that she is a part of the celebration in China.
