Happy New Year!

DD tried to stay awake to welcome in the new year, but just couldn't do it. Uncle Mark told her that if she fell asleep before midnight that she would turn into a FROG.  She was obviously not too concerned.    Doodlebug, however,  made it until the final countdown.  She's just not the ribbiting kind. LOL

December Days

December is almost over and this is my FIRST post!  I've got to do better!
Every year Desheng Darling and Doodlebug decorate a small tree in honor of the children in China who are still waiting on their "forever families" and may not get to celebrate Christmas.
They always have a great time doing it!
Doodlebug decided that it needed just a little more decorating, so she added a crown to the top----the more EXTRAVAGANT, the better!

The girls (including Sister Darling) and I had fun making these reindeer cupcakes
for our play group Christmas party.
DD and DB at the party with some of their home school play group friends...
They enjoyed a few games of musical chairs,
 having snowball races, and
  playing Chubby Bunny with marshmallows!

We've made a few Christmas crafts this month,
attended a few office Christmas parties and...
had a picture made with Santa who
allowed the girls to pick ANY toy they wanted out of his bag!
Last night we enjoyed Christmas at our house.Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be spent with grandparents, so we  had our family celebration a few days early.

We made Christmas cookies...
had a concert of Christmas music performed by DD and directed by DB...
   opened GIFTS!!!!

and ATTEMPTED to make a family picture! LOL  It's been a great month so far!

A STITCH IN TIME

Desheng and Doodlebug enjoyed  spending a few days at Nanny's last week.
Their FAVORITE part was helping Nanny quilt!
 Check out these stitches!LOL
Makes you feel all warm and snuggly, doesn't it? LOL Sweet Dreams!

Desheng Darling and Doodlebug in Full Bloom!

DD and DB were asked to be flower girls in my niece’s outdoor wedding a couple of weeks ago.
(It rained!)  What fun!
They started out with a quick trim at the beauty salon.
Followed by a few hours in these infamous sponge rollers!  They couldn’t believe I made them stop by the mall while wearing them.  DD was SO embarrassed!LOL

This picture was made  before leaving for the wedding and
standing in the rain.

 A quick picture with PawPaw...
and one with the bride before the downpour.
My sweet niece...quite beautiful rain or shine!
I would have taken more pictures, but my camera batteries went down : (  The girls LOVED the reception and really put on a show on the dance floor. Too funny!   That Doodlebug is quite the party girl!

Poca & Hontas

Desheng Darling has been making plans since last Oct. 31st to be Pocahontas this year.  I made this outfit for her last night (nothing like waiting until the last minute.)  When she informed Doodlebug that Pocahontas did not have a little sister, it didn't go over too well. This is how we worked it out...
 Meet Poca and Hontas
Sometimes referred to as the Pocahonti
They had a great time at the Fall Festival at our church tonight.  As an added bonus...the girls will get to wear these to the homeschool co-op event celebrating Thanksgiving.  We might have to refer to them as the SOS (Sisters of Squanto) for that one. Lol

A Long Way to the Pumpkin Patch

It's been quite a while since my last post.  Here's what we've been doing.
Doodlebug is learning to read and doing well, but  it’s obvious that reading is not her FAVORITE thing to do, so we tried to entice her by downloading an ebook.  She really liked it, but after reading through it a couple of times, she went back to her Barbies and princesses.
We downloaded a book for DD too.  Of course, she loved it!  But DD would be willing to read a book written on a cardboard box.  She just LOVES to read.  She's actually one of those people who likes the way a book feels and smells and prefers that over digital media.

In DB’s lesson themed “I LIVE AND GROW IN JESUS,” the girls studied  plants and collected leaves.

This one was their favorite.
In order to get a better idea about how leaves grow, Doodlebug planted a bean plant. We tied this into DD’s study of the early pioneers, by letting her plant corn.

So, at this time we have  beans and corn growing INDOORS!

Along with our gardening, DB studied  transpiration

and did a little leaf artwork.

Followed by some "Yummy" cookies!

Doodlebug’s next lesson was themed "STAYING IN JESUS AND HAVING MUCH FRUIT. " Although it was actually about the fruits of the spirit, it used apples as a reference. She loved observing, comparing, and eating the different kinds of apples.

She especially enjoyed making applesauce!
Desheng Darling’s Bible lesson was on Jesus as THE BREAD OF LIFE.  We still haven’t gotten around to baking bread, but we bought some Jesus bread (as DD calls it) so that we could eat it with the  butter we learned to make while studying about the pilgrims from Holland.
We didn’t have a churn to make the butter, but shaking it up and down in this little plastic jar worked pretty well.

The girls loved it!

Then, we took a field trip to the Ft. Worth Zoo.  It really had nothing to do with our curriculum, but it was Home School Day at the zoo, so we took advantage of the good price and took Daddy D with us.

We hurried home from the zoo for horseback riding.  The girls received a certificate for completing their first round of lessons.

More fun at co-op in their Storigami class…the girls made hats and three boats representing Columbus and the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.

Last week Doodlebug studied about NESTS…"God takes good care of me just like he takes care of all his creation."
We made chocolate & peanut butter covered chow mein noodle "nests"

with marshmallow eggs.
"YUMMY"
Finally,  the Pumpkin Patch!
Last Friday we joined some friends from one of our home school play groups for a day of fun at Larken Farms!
Mega hay tractor

A hayride around the farm
A fun hay maze and
face painting
My two favorite pumpkins in the whole patch!
